Where do I even begin with this post? I’ve been wanting to share a little more personal things on my blog for some time but just never quite knew where to start. Then I realized, the best place to start anything new is with the heart. Some of you may know that Thomas and I have recently welcomed our first baby boy, sweet Oliver Thomas.
We were dreaming of him long before he was here, and with that came inspiration for his very first bedroom. And so with the help of my partner in crime, Ann, we dreamed up the most perfect nursery for him and the best part is, that we made it come to life, and every single touch came straight from our hearts.
I knew that I wanted a modern and fresh nursery with lots of natural sunlight, which thankfully our new flat provides plenty of. What I didn’t want was a typical boy nursery with transformers etc. I know all of that is just ahead of me once he is a toddler. His nursery was a space that I wanted to be able to sit in and nurse him in, enjoy quite mornings and evenings and just overall seek a little peacefulness (when he’s not crying of course).
I also wanted to bring in the element of music as that’s been so important to me growing up. Both my dad and brother were musically talented, and since they have both passed away, bringing music into the nursery was my way of having a piece of them here with Oliver. I enlisted in the help of my very talented friend, Patricia of Fancy Girl Designs to custom illustrate music lyrics as his wall art. I chose songs that meant a lot to me, such as At Last by Etta James. As you know it’s an incredible love song, but when I listened to it after becoming pregnant I noticed it also could depict a relationship between mother & child, and from that moment I knew it had to be included. Thank you so much Pat for bringing my visions and dreams to life.
I also want to extend a huge thank you to Ann for dreaming this all with me, as it was truly a labor of love and one I couldn’t have done without her.
Another special thanks to my sweet friends Dolly and Noleen for helping to NAIL our accent wall after our professional painter was too afraid to take on that striped wall. I’ve never seen stripes more perfect in all my life.

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Oh yeah yeah
At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Oh yeah yeah
You smiled, you smiled
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine…
