Heather & Sal met on a Princess cruise ship. After a few evenings of noticing Sal, Heather finally got the nerve to introduce herself. It was love at first sight, and the rest was history. They decided to have a simple wedding with elegant plum touches at The Manor in West Orange, New Jersey. Heather enjoyed creating many of the decor elements herself with the help of her friends and family to bring a special touch to their wedding day. Something Blue Wedding Photography did a beautiful job at capturing all the fun.
How did he propose?
We went on a weekend trip to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania. When I walked into the room it was decorated with flowers, balloons and of course chocolates. On the bed was a big block of chocolate that had will you marry me written on it? When I turned around he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand. I was in so much shock I thought we might be in the wrong room. I am not easily surprised and he got me on this one
Tell me about your dress!
I love my dress. This was the first dress I tried on, not that I didn’t try on a good amount after. The best part is I had picked up a bunch of dresses to try on that looked nothing like this one and it was my Mom who picked it up and said can you please try this on. She knew it was a little more detailed than what I would normally go with but I fell in love with it. As soon as I put it on I imagined my whole day in it and how beautiful my pictures would be.
What was your favorite moment of the day?
Bride: My favorite moment of the day was the first glance with Sal. We met before the ceremony, just him and I on a bridge at the Manor. Seeing him made everything feel so real. The reaction he gave when he turned around to see me for the first time was unforgettable. It brought tears to both of our eyes. I will never forget the way he looked at me in that moment and the way he said how stunning I looked and how much he loves me.
Groom: The favorite moment of the day for me was seeing my bride for the first time. At that moment I realized that I was actually doing this today. All the planning that has been done coming to the day finally made sense.
What was your vision for your wedding day?
Usually people say that the wives have been dreaming and planning their weddings since they were little girls. That wasn’t the case with me. I think what made my wedding so amazing is the fact that I didn’t have much expectations. My vision was to have a simple, yet elegant wedding. All I really wanted at the end of the day was to have an amazing time with my husband, family and friends.
Unfortunately my father is no longer with us, which allowed me to walk down the aisle with my Mother, the person I love most on this earth (besides Sal). However, I wanted my father to be with me that day so I attached a picture of us and a hanging dove to my bouquet. This allowed me to share the whole day with him, including that walk down the aisle.
What was your favorite part of the planning process?
I really enjoyed every part of the process, but dress shopping was probably the most fun. I saved the dress search for just my Mom and I and we had a great time doing it together. My second favorite part was making the bow ties for the favors with my best friend/ Maid of Honor Danielle.
Do you have any advice to other couples planning their day?
ENJOY IT! Keep it about the two of you. I told myself the whole time that the most important person for me that day was Sal and nothing else really mattered. Make that day what the two of you want it to be. Don’t get hung up and stressed out about the little things. Guests will never know the little things that might have gone wrong. People want to see a happy couple and want to have a good time. Time does fly so enjoy and have a blast with your wife/husband, friends and family.
