A picture perfect skyline + a picture perfect couple makes for one gorgeous engagement session!
Gina & Dan’s Chicago skyline engagement session just might be among our favorites! We couldn’t hardly narrow down which images we wanted to share. They are so photogenic and their love for each other radiates through each and every image. We can tell that Katie of Katie Scarlett Photography had so much fun with this session! Gina & Dan met through mutual friends and after knowing each other for a while, it was actually Gina who asked Dan to make it official first.
We asked Gina to tell us a little more about the love story that led her and Dan here and we can’t wait to share it with you!
We met through mutual friends a little over 4 ½ years ago (May 12, 2011 to be exact). It was an instant connection; however, we remained just good friends at first. About 6 months later, on that Thanksgiving, November 24th, 2011, I made a courageous decision and asked Danny if he would officially be my boyfriend…of course he said yes! (phew!) From there, us lovebirds were inseparable. We enjoy exploring the beautiful city of Chicago together, cheering on our favorite teams at countless sporting events, especially hockey (Go Blackhawks!), and vacationing in Arizona, Michigan and Mexico. No matter where we go, we ALWAYS have an awesome time together!
The first week of June 2015, Danny told me that he had a work dinner that upcoming Thursday and that significant others were invited to attend. Knowing that his company really does have dinners like this occasionally, I believed him and was excited to meet him downtown Chicago for a fun dinner. When Thursday June 4th came around, I took the train downtown after work and met Danny at Union Station. We then started walking towards Millennium Park, as he said we had a lot of time to kill before the dinner started. I love walking around Millennium Park so I, again, didn’t think anything of it and was just excited to be in the city with Danny on such a nice day. When we approached Millennium Park, Danny thought it was a good idea to stop and take a picture in front of the Chicago landmark called, The Bean. We asked a couple to take our picture using Danny’s phone; after the couple took our picture, I went to retrieve his phone from them and when I turned around Danny was down on one knee with the ring in his hand and he said the words I had been waiting my whole life to hear “Gina, will you marry me?” I was in shock! My first reply was “Oh my gosh, are you serious!?” Danny had tears in his eyes and shook his head yes. I was so choked up I couldn’t speak, so I shook my head yes and he put the gorgeous ring in my finger, stood up, and held me in his arms and hugged and kissed me. A few seconds later, someone came out from behind us with a camera snapping more pictures of us; little did I know, Danny had asked a friend to hide and secretly take pictures to capture the moment. It was perfect!
The wedding will be July 6, 2016 in Riviera Maya, Mexico. We are getting married right on the beach at the Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa. We are expecting about 30-40 of our closest friends and family members to attend. It is going to be unforgettable, we cannot wait!!
The ring is an “ideal cut” round diamond center stone with a round micropave’ halo around it, with diamonds on the band. I had tried on a few rings and wasn’t in love with anything. Then, while looking online one day, I saw a ring (identical to the one I have now) and fell in love with it. I showed Danny a picture of it and he had it custom made for me. The first time I saw the ring was when he proposed and it is so gorgeous and perfect. Exactly what I dreamed of!

These are great engagement photos. Such nice colours. My favourite ones are the ones with the cityscape in the background.
